Chess Table Ensembles — The Return of Chess
"When I embarked on this elaborate project, chess wasn’t on my mind yet. I was guided purely by a fascination with the human body—its form and its tremendous dynamism. Day and night, countless shapes circled in my head. Only later did I realize that this chess ensemble would become the perfect stage for my sculptures."
— Harry Brunner
Inspiration
For Harry Brunner, the starting point was a deep fascination with human anatomy. The artist worked on this ensemble for four years—from the first sketch to the finished set. The pieces in the original chess set stand approximately 25 cm (9.8 in) tall and are crafted from 925 sterling silver. The complete set is also available in a smaller, classic tabletop format with a 55 × 55 cm (21.7 × 21.7 in) board.
Chess Pieces
The unique pieces are also available individually. Various sizes and materials are possible—currently, the bishop is being cast as a 1.50 m outdoor sculpture in aluminum.
